# Free Model

> An independent directory of free-model availability, conditions, evidence, and usage on OpenRouter, with an optional bounded Chat workspace.

Free Model is not a general API gateway and is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenRouter. When Chat is operationally ready, it uses a dedicated server-side key for approved free routes and never asks visitors for an OpenRouter key.

## Optional Chat boundary

- Chat is hidden and its API fails closed unless its feature flag, dedicated key, finite cap, free-only permissions, current route evidence, and durable quotas are ready.
- Chat history is saved only in browser local storage. Prompt and response content transits Free Model, OpenRouter, and the selected provider but is not intentionally persisted or logged by Free Model.
- Chat is a bounded interactive evaluation surface, not a public inference API or paid-model router.
